Clarity Counselling Edinburgh
Counselling in Edinburgh, Bathgate and online
I'm Ewan Irvine, a BACP Accredited Counsellor offering individual counselling for adults.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. You might be dealing with anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, anger, loss or pressure at work. Or you might simply feel stuck, overwhelmed or not quite yourself.
You don't need a diagnosis, and you don't need to know exactly what you want to say. We can start with what's happening for you now and work from there.
Maybe something needs to change. You don't need to be in crisis to come to counselling.
Sometimes there's an obvious reason for seeking support. At other times, life can look fine from the outside while something doesn't feel right underneath.
You might be:
feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed
struggling with low mood or motivation
overthinking things and finding it difficult to switch off
putting everyone else's needs before your own
finding relationships difficult
dealing with anger or irritability
under pressure at work
going through loss or a significant change
feeling lonely or disconnected
struggling with confidence or self-esteem
feeling stuck without really knowing why
Or maybe you can't put your finger on what's wrong. You just know that things don't feel right.
That's enough to start with. Counselling gives us time to slow things down, understand what's happening and look at what you might want to change. A down-to-earth approach to counselling - Counselling doesn't have to mean sitting in awkward silence wondering what you're supposed to say.
I'll be actively involved in our conversations. I'll listen carefully, but I'll also ask questions, offer observations and help us explore what's going on beneath the surface. Sometimes we'll look at what's happening in your life right now. At other times, it can be useful to understand experiences from your past and how they might still be affecting you. I won't tell you how to live your life or pretend to have all the answers. My role is to help you understand yourself more clearly, recognise patterns that may be keeping you stuck and find ways forward that make sense to you.
There isn't a script you need to follow and there isn't a right way to do counselling. You can bring whatever is important to you, and we can take things at a pace that feels manageable.
Men's mental health
For many men, asking for help doesn't come naturally. You might be used to getting on with things, solving problems yourself or keeping what's going on to yourself. Sometimes that works — until it doesn't.
Stress can turn into irritability. Work can become somewhere to hide. Relationships can become strained. Sleep can suffer. You might withdraw from people or find yourself wondering why you don't feel like yourself anymore. You don't have to be good at talking about feelings to come to counselling. We can start with what's actually happening in your life and work from there.
Choosing a counsellor is personal. Qualifications and experience matter, but you also need to feel that you're talking to someone you can be yourself with. My approach is warm, straightforward and down to earth. You won't need to use therapy language or arrive with a perfectly organised explanation of what's wrong.
I'll listen, ask questions, notice patterns and sometimes gently challenge you when I think it could be useful. There may be serious conversations, but counselling doesn't have to feel serious every minute. There's room for humour, uncertainty, frustration and all the ordinary parts of being human. We'll start with you, as you are.
I offer individual Face-to-Face counselling for adults in Edinburgh and Bathgate.
If travelling doesn't suit you, online counselling allows us to work together from wherever you have a private, comfortable space.
Online sessions work in much the same way as meeting face to face.
Thinking about counselling?
You don't have to decide whether counselling is right for you before getting in touch. And you don't need to send me your whole story.
A short message telling me a little about what has brought you here and whether you're interested in Edinburgh, Bathgate or online counselling is enough. I'll get back to you and we can talk about availability and whether working together feels right for you.
Simple, transparent fees
£45 for a 60-minute counselling session
